According to the United Nations, the world population is forecast to increase from the current population of 7 billion to 9 billion by 2050, and the rapid urbanization will attract more than 2.5 billion people to cities.

In cities where many people live together in a limited land, various problems began to arise in residential, environment, and transportation. In order to solve these problems, Korea has pushed for smart city policies from an early stage. Smart City began to be introduced as a downtown renewal solution to the urban problems caused by overpopulation, and now it is receiving worldwide attention as a future city model to live in the future.

The global smart cities market is expected to continue to grow and reach $2 trillion by 2025. In Korea, the market is project to expand to 151 trillion won by 2021.
